If you follow along on Instagram, you know we’re moving!
We woke up one morning and decided to sell our house. It’s truly a bittersweet change. We bought the house we currently live in about 6 months after we got married. We brought both of our newborn babies home from the hospital to this house . We have enjoyed so many holidays and special memories here and have put our blood, sweat and tears into so many DIY projects! We honestly LOVE this house and thought we would be here forever. We fell in love with our house when we were house hunting back in 2017 and put in an offer. We were outbid and totally heartbroken. We continued our search and just weren’t loving anything else because we couldn’t help comparing everything to “THE ONE”. Then, the craziest thing happened! The house fell out of escrow and we immediately put our offer back on the table. It was accepted! So we eventually got to move in to our dream house- that was a total dump! HA!
When I tell you that our house was a fixer upper, I’m telling you… it was a fixer upper. I need to go pull some before and after photos. There was soggy, wet carpet in the kitchen and a really smelly, rotted out bathtub in the master bath. The spa in the backyard was slimy and green and oozing. There were even dead flies on the wall that had been left there after someone swatter them. I’m telling you… disgusting. The selling agent did not make it easy, and the previous owners even refused to move out after close of escrow. It was a true war story getting this house you guys!! But the view!!! The view from the backyard of this house was worth it all. So, needless to say, we got an amazing deal on this fixer upper and got to work.
We replaced the flooring, painted the walls, gutted the stinky tub in the master and replaced it with a beautiful stand-alone tub. We replaced all of the light fixtures, gutted and re-tiled both fire places, added a custom shiplap accent wall in the living room, re-landscaped the front, and back of the house, raised the ceilings in the kitchen, did a lot of not-so-fun, very necessary improvements like fixing AC and other boring stuff, and so much more I’m currently forgetting. We did most of the work ourselves (luckily my husband is
super handy and no stranger to the YouTube… and I’ve been known to wield a pow
er tool or two in my day…) and took our time. The thing is… we did all of this before we had kids and our needs have changed. Our kids, ages 3 and 1.5, are little adventurers who love to roam, garden, explore, dig, be outside and make a mess. At our current house, we have a gorgeous outdoor space that is perfect for entertaining, but it’s not so perfect for littles. I want the house on the street the the kids all come to because the backyard is perfect for a game of baseball or tag. So basically, that’s why we’re moving. My husband and I both have very special childhood memories of playing in our backyards with our siblings and the neighbors, playing croquet with our families, playing with friends during backyard barbeques while our parents all hung out, etc.
Another reason we’ve decided to move is that I really hate clutter and having random stuff everywhere. It just messes with me. And our current house is set up to where our main living area is also where the kids play and their stuff inevitably ends up, so there’s also that. We are currently using one room as our guest room, playroom and as an office for Kasey and myself and would like to have a little more room to spread those things out. A loft space or bonus room would be perfect! When we bought our house, I worked full-time in an office and never envisioned myself working from home full-time and therefore needing a home office space. We literally had two guest rooms set up for the one-off visitor and when I had the space for an office, I didn’t need one. Go figure.
We’ve been dreaming of a bigger yard with grass for the kids and our black lab, Chip and just a little bit more space inside. I would love to have space for a couple of raised garden beds because Wyatt and I love to garden together.
As I’m sure you’ve heard, the real estate market is HOT right now. In our area, if you put your house on the market, it goes fast and prices are way up! So we basically just jumped on the opportunity without really having a plan for where we would move. I’m still pretty surprised we did this because my husband and I are both big planners. To be honest, it just felt right so we just went with it! We will be temporarily moving in with my parents who currently live about 1 mile from us while we figure out our next move. We are super grateful for them and know we are totally blessed to be able to stay with them while we look around for our next home! I’m actually really excited to live with them for a couple of months because the kids will have so much fun and there will be extra hands to help out. We will also be living with them through the holidays which I think will be so nice!
I don’t remember why, but I don’t have any before pictures of our bedroom! Below is a random photo I took of our bedding.
The one thing we will really miss about this house is the spectacular view! It’s truly so amazing and pretty much why we fell in love with the house. On Independence Day, we usually have a party and can see fireworks from all of the surrounding cities and from surrounding backyards. It’s truly breathtaking! This house has been so good to us and we will always remember some of our best years being spent here. We are also excited for the next chapter! Which I will definitely keep you guys updated on 🙂
Also, I will be doing lots of planning and shopping for our new house in the coming months and will be saving all of the products I plan to buy to my Amazon Influencer page under “New Home Links” I’ve already started compiling my wish list because I just can’t help myself!
