THE LOW-DOWN
When I took down my home decor in late December, I was NOT inspired to put my old decor back up. We‘ve lived in our house for three years now, and I‘ve had most of our decor since we moved in. Home decor has always been a hobby and passion of mine, and was actually my career (and still kind of is!) before I left my 9-5 to stay home with my kids.
A little background on me and my experience with home decor and design: I studied Visual Communications at FIDM (the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) which is basically graphic design mixed with practical design. I learned set creation, window displays, mold making, color theory, etc. It was an AMAZING experience. I also worked at a major home design + tech start-up company for almost 5 years as an e-commerce Merchandiser, and then got my real estate license when I was pregnant with my now two year old son. I do property management, real estate and home staging part-time now and enjoy the flexibility it allows with the kids. I usually bring them along to my appointments! I am also an invitation designer, but that’s a blog post for another day. I wear many hats. HA!
When I worked as a merchandiser I really loved seeing new products before they came out, researching trends, styling collections and curating decor. I really miss the creative outlet that provided me so decorating my own home has been a nice way to fill that void. Also, I have spent wayyyyy more time at home since having kids and with Covid-19 and find myself staring at corners of my house I never noticed before and wanting to fix them up. My husband is absolutely thrilled every time he gets home from work and I have a new project idea for us to “go over”. Some days I feel like completely gutting my house and starting over, but since that’s not exactly in the budget, I’ll make do with sprucing up a few of our main rooms with some affordable and amazing decor from Target, specifically the new Studio McGee collection. In my opinion, the selection of home decor has never been better! I purchased some of my favorite pieces and wanted to share how I styled them for you all. I also included some other areas in my home, such as the master bedroom and bath, that have recently gotten facelifts with new bedding and decor items.
Next up, I’ll be tackling my home office, my husband’s game room and the kid’s playroom. Did I mention that all of that is in one room? It’s the bane of my existence and I’m determined to make it work!!
