Wyatt is a WATER BABY. Due to covid, our summer activity list has been pretty limited, so we spend A LOT of time at my parent’s house… specifically in the pool in their back yard. I am lucky enough to live about a mile from my parents (and their pool), so whenever we get cabin fever we load up the car and head over there for some fun in the sun. Bonus: they have an outdoor fridge with drinks for mom and dad 🙂
Usually Kasey and Wyatt do “swim lessons” in the pool while Charlotte and I hang out on the lounge chair under the umbrella and watch the boys. Kasey was a competitive swimmer and lifeguard back in the day so he’s been great at teaching Wyatt how to swim. We have purchased some things that I think have really helped Wyatt get comfortable in the water and have given momma some peace of mind. We’ve also invested in some summer toys for our house to keep him entertained on hot days, so I want to share my top summer toddler essentials with you!
1. Baby Bum Sunscreen Face Stick – this think is KEY. It’s super easy to apply, has clean and safe ingredients, and is waxy so it doesn’t drip down into little ones eyes. It also lasts a really long time in the pool.
Baby Bum Mineral Suncreen – Smells amazing. Like a tropical vacation.
2. Splash pad – this is really easy to use- just attach your hose and let them play!
3. Froggles – We just ordered these because Wyatt’s starting to swim with his face under water. They stay on really well and come in a bunch of fun colors/patterns.
4. Pampers Swim Diapers – We’ve tried Huggies and Pampers and actually like the Pampers more because they are easy to get on and off wet baby bums. We prefer Huggies for regular diapers, though.
5. Toddler sun hat – UV 50+ sun protection and comes in lots of colors! Wyatt wears this hat pretty much every time he plays outside, is in the stroller or is in the water. We’ve bought multiple sizes since he was a baby. We LOVE this thing!
6. Baby/Toddler rash guard (UV 50+ protection) – Same sun protection as the sun hat and also comes in multiple colors. Wyatt has had
7. Swimsuit – Super inexpensive, super cute.
8. Puddle Jumper – This thing is a GAME CHANGER! He can be more independent in the pool and is really learning how to kick and paddle while wearing it. We will also make him wear it when we are just hanging by the pool for safety. It has a vest/straps which really help keep it on when they’re so active.
9. Radio Flyer Trike – This tricycle is great because you can steer from the long handle in the back while pushing them. He can’t quite ride it by himself yet, but he loves when I push him up and down the driveway during Charlotte’s naps. The long handle comes off when they are ready to ride by themselves.
10.Radio Flyer Scooter – Not only is this fun for Wyatt to play with, but I think it helps with his balance.
11. Crocs – I know I know… Crocs! But honestly these are perfect for summertime! Waterproof, easy to slip on and off, no socks required and easy for Wyatt to walk in. Perfect for pool days since he isn’t quite ready to wear flip flops yet. We’ve purchased multiple sizes for him. You can find them for a great price, too!
12. Girl crocs – Found this super cute girl pair!
13. Natives – We also have these. While they are a little bit more stylish, I’ve found they have to be the exact right size of the little one’s feet to really be comfortable and stay on. They are also pricier.
14. Collapsible Cooler – We LOVE this thing! We got it for Kasey’s dad for Father’s Day and had to get one for ourselves, too. It fits so much stuff, keeps it cold, has pockets and a bottle opener attached and collapses down flat. So easy to store or pack for a weekend away.
15. Water Table – We filled ours with kinetic sand! Wyatt uses his little shovel and digs around.
