I’m not going to lie- we were kind of in survival mode schedule wise during Charlotte’s first 3 months. I’m not big on schedules for newborns because I think they pretty much do what they want when they want and need their mom around the clock. For both my babies, in the ”fourth trimester”, or the first 12 weeks of life, I tried to give myself a lot of grace and didn’t rush back into our crazy schedule. I wanted to enjoy the newborn phase and take it slow! Also- this is my IDEAL/PERFECT schedule. Sometimes the kids have their own plans and the schedule gets thrown out the door and we just fly by the seat of our pants until bedtime. Some days I feel like brushing my teeth is my big accomplishment of the day. Some days we have an event or appointment to go to and we have to improvise. So, please keep that in mind while reading this!
6am: I wake up, make coffee, do a quick brain dump/my to-do list for the day and workout – even if it’s just 10-20 minutes of walking on the treadmill or some quick diastasis recti exercises or some stretching. I will be using the Peloton for this as soon as it is delivered! I have pretty bad diastasis recti (ab separation) after having both kids so close together, so I cannot run yet. This is part of the reason we got the Peloton and I’m so excited to incorporate it into my morning routing once it arrives! I find that this window of time really sets
the stage for my whole day and if I wake up before the kids I feel way more productive all day long. If Charlotte has a bad night, I prioritize sleep and sleep in as late as possible (until Charlotte wakes up around 7) but this makes me feel like the day is chaotic and that I’m playing catch up all day and I prefer not to do this. If we have plans that day, I will try to squeeze in a quick shower. Hair and makeup (if we have plans) will usually happen during Charlotte’s first nap.
I also try to prep breakfast for Wyatt if I have time. If not, he hangs in the kitchen while I prepare breakfast for him and my husband. If my husband is home he will hang with the kids during this time.
7am: Charlotte wake, change diaper + nurse
7:30: Wyatt wakes up and eats breakfast. When Charlotte starts solids she will also have breakfast.
8:00 I clean up from breakfast while Wyatt plays with his toys/chases the dog around. I will either wear Charlie in the sling or she will hang out with Kasey if he’s not at work.
8:30: Wyatt has some independent playtime while I do tummy time with Charlotte OR if the weather is nice we all have some playtime in the backyard and I will wear Charlotte in the sling. I will either push Wyatt on the swing or he will dig in the sandbox/ play with his toys while I walk around and water or sit and finish my coffee.
9am: Charlotte Nap #1
I pump for 20 mins for Charlotte’s bottle she drinks before bed.
Wyatt and I have some alone play time with Kasey before he goes to work. If I have chores to do such as laundry, cleaning, vacuuming, Wyatt enjoys “helping me“ around the house.
*We may do a playdate or go to the park at 9am some days. If this is the case, Charlotte will nap on the go in her car seat and Wyatt will have a snack on the go.
9:30: Wyatt snack
10:00: Charlotte wake, change diaper + nurse
11:15: Prep lunch for Wyatt while Charlotte plays in jumper, bouncy chair or swing.
11:30: Wyatt and Kasey eat lunch.
12pm: Charlotte takes nap 2, Wyatt takes his only nap for the day.
12-1: If all goes as planned, both kids will be asleep at the same time for 1 hour. I usually use this time eat lunch (I am doing intermittent fasting so this is my first meal of the day), work, clean, get ready for the day or anything I can squeeze into that time. If I’m working on something and am not finished when Charlotte wakes up, I nu
rse her and set her up in her bouncer while I finish up what I’m doing until Wyatt wakes up.
1pm: Charlotte wake, change diaper + nurse
2/2:30pm: Wyatt wakes up and has a snack. We will either go for a walk in the stroller or meet our friends at the park.
3pm: Charlotte Nap 3. Wyatt and I play outside, do chores, start dinner.
4pm: Charlotte wake, change diaper + nurse
5:00: Make dinner. Wyatt usually plays with his toys or watched Blippi if I’m desperate. If Kasey is working, my mom will usually come over and help entertain the kids and help with dinner. She also will help with Wyatt’s bedtime routine if it’s ta
king longer for me to put Charlotte to bed. She is an angel sent from Heaven and I literally don’t know what I would do without her. If Kasey is home (weekends) he will usually do Wyatt’s bedtime and I will do Charlotte’s.
5:30 or 6: Eat dinner.
6:30: Charlotte bath, change to jammies, feed bottle, rock, sing songs, swaddle (she still sleeps in our room and we plan to move her to her crib around 6 months).
7: Charlotte Bedtime
7:05 – Wyatt bath, jammies, books, bed, say prayers, goodnight kisses
7:30 – Wyatt Bedtime
7:45 – Pump for freezer stash
8:00 – Work, clean, laundry, have a glass (or two) of wine, watch tv, wait for Kasey to get home!
Phew, I’m exhausted just typing this out!!
