What I’m Glad we Brought

Bikes: we used these all day everyday. It was really fun to ride around and pull the kids in their trailer and was more convenient than walking.

Breville Toaster Oven: The motorhome we rented did not have an oven, but it did have a microwave and very small stove. I didn’t want to worry about bringing pots and pans, and nothing we brought was really microwavable.

Sonos One: We used this to play music and for white noise at night to drown out noise from other campers. We brought the charger because it’s really small but never had to use it. It works with our sonos system at home and can also switch to bluetooth when on-the-go.

Nespresso Next: Our Nespresso machine takes up barely any space and can brew espresso, regular coffee, and even 18 oz. pour over coffee into a carafe. I love the flexibility this little machine provides! It even was on my Top 20 of 2020 list!

Frozen meals: I made Baked Ziti and 2 breakfast casseroles and baked them in the toaster oven. I’m so glad I did this! Prepping full meals inside the RV would have been really stressful and time consuming, and storing all of the ingredients would have been difficult. I made them in disposal foil containers so we didn’t have to do dishes.

Paper plates and plastic utensils: Not the greenest option, but you can only use so much water before you have to empty your tank. It’s also really hard to do dishes in a teeny tiny sink. I was super glad I could hang out and relax vs. doing a million dishes.

Lots of Bottled Water: They recommend not using the water in the RV (city water) for cooking or drinking. We also used it to fill up the Baby Brezza and the Nespresso. We kept some in a cooler with ice which helped us stay hydrated.

Chairs: Seating is very limited. Some campsites have a picnic table, but that’s it. So if you want to hang out outside (you do!) beach or camping chairs are a must!

Clever Crates Collapsible Storage: I love these things! I keep one in my car all the time and we even have one that is a cooler. We used ours to store our food and kitchen items that we unloaded into the kitchen. When empty, the collapse down and take up very little space. It was also convenient to pack everything into these crates to load the RV and made unloading really easy, too.

What I Wish We Brought

Portable fire ring + firewood: Not every campsite had a fire pit, and it would’ve been fun to sit around a campfire when it got chilly at night.

Ingredients to make S’mores: See above!

Rug/mat for outside our camper: We tracked in a lot of dirt and this would’ve helped! We were parked on dirt. My parents were parked on asphalt so they didn’t have this issue.

Small broom and dustpan: See above!

Bike lock: Our bikes were fine outside of our motorhome unlocked, but it would’ve given us peace of mind to have them locked up.

Umbrella or Ez-Up Canopy: There was not a lot of shade, and our motorhome did not have a canopy.

More warm weather clothing options: I assumed it would be cold since we went in February and it was by the beach, but it got up to 80 degrees one day! It definitely got cold at night and in the morning, but we all wished we brought shorts.

Collapsible laundry basket: It would have been nice to have a place to throw dirty clothes besides a trash bag to help keep us organized.

“Glam”ping: Beauty Must-Haves for Camping

CC Cream/Tinted Moisturizer: I picked up this Honest Beauty one at Target for the trip and really like it! It has SPF and Vitamin C which is great, when you’re outdoors a lot. I also liked the consistency. It felt really light and clean and gave decent coverage. I was surprised that it lasted all day despite being pretty active and outside all day.

Flutter Habit Lashes: I wake up feeling like most of the work is done!

Becca Under Eye Brightener: You just need a little dab under your eyes, and it wakes up your whole face. You could wear this by itself, too.

Makeup Remover Wipes: I love the the Hydroboost ones from Neutrogena. These are great when a washcloth and sink with hot water aren’t convenient.

Elta MD Sunscreen: I swear by this stuff. No smell, goes on super clean, and has hyaluronic acid for hydration and plumpness. I use it as my moisturizer, too.

Tula Blurring Primer: You could wear this alone, too. Adds just a little bit of glow and coverage and it’s good for your skin. Love this stuff.

Tula Brightening Stick: This really wakes up your face and is also good for your skin. It has a nice cooling effect. I use it where I would normally use my highlighter.

Dry shampoo: I’ve tried them all and this one is my favorite. Cheapie Dove from the drugstore.

Neutrogena Hydroboost lip gloss: This works better than any chapstick plus it’s super pretty on. My lips got really dry for some reason and this helped!

Hair tip: Wash and style your hair the night before you leave and don’t use any products on it to push the time out between washes. Bring dry shampoo and use it on your hair before you go to sleep each night to let it do it’s magic while you sleep. I’m really glad I didn’t have to wash my hair on the motorhome because it would’ve been a huge pain. I always do this when I travel!

Key Takeaways

1. I think this trip helped me to become a better mom because I was able to let go a little bit and go with the flow instead of feeling the pressure to stick to a strict schedule. We let the kids get dirty, didn’t stress out over short naps or late bedtimes and tried to have a really relaxed attitude about everything. I loved it!

2. It made me REALLY appreciate my husband because I wasn’t worried about getting things set up, driving the RV, getting stranded somewhere, filling up the propane, figuring out hot water for the shower, etc. I knew he’d be able to figure it out which was so nice!

3. I think one of the reasons the trip was a success is that we went with my parents and my brother and sister-in-law. It was really nice to have extra hands with the kids. We also decided that each of us would be in charge of 1 dinner while we were there, so instead of having to cook all three nights we only had to worry about 1. We also ordered takeout 1 of the nights.

4. This trip really made me appreciate my home, my shower and my bed! It was so much fun, but it was really nice to get home and be able to cook in my full-sized kitchen.

5. Trailer over motorhome! We will definitely be taking another camping trip, soon and will be able to rent a trailer next time since my husband plans to purchase a new truck. I think it will be an even better experience!

6. Bringing a dog was easier than I thought! Chip had the time of his life and got really good at running beside me while I rode my bike. He chilled outside with us most of the time and did fine hanging in the camper when we went to eat at the restaurant one time (in the air conditioning). Keep in mind that they do have to be on a leash the whole time. There were tons of dogs, and we didn’t hear any bark at night.
